The Ohio Craft Museum

The Ohio Craft Museum   Did you know that Grandview is home to a unique art museum?  In fact, The Ohio Craft Museum is the only museum in the Midwest devoted to collecting and exhibiting fine craft exclusively.  The Ohio Craft Museum presents 5 major exhibitions each year, as well as focus exhibits and rotating exhibits featuring studio glass, ceramics, fiber art, fine metal jewelry and art furniture. Don’t let the name fool you, The Ohio Craft Museum is not a history museum of crafts. It is an exhibition of contemporary craftsmen. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1993 and became the main display case for Ohio Designer Craftsmen, an organization founded in 1963 that promotes public awareness of professional artisans. Can you believe this is a quilt?! The museum also houses the Craft Research Library and stages educational workshops and events for all ages and levels of experience. There is also a great gift shop. Spring break craft camps and summer day camps are available for kids ages 7 to twelve.   The Ohio Craft Museum 1665 W. 2013 UA Volunteer Expo

2013 Upper Arlington Volunteer Expo Image Via WordPress Upper Arlington Public Library 2800 Tremont Road April 17, 2013 10am-8pm Now in it’s sixth year, Volunteer UA Expo links local civic and nonprofit organizations with those who wish to volunteer their time.  This worthwhile event is free and open to all ages.  Last year’s event featured exhibit tables for thirty organizations.  So whether you want to help out at a one-time event or be involved on an ongoing basis or if you enjoy some physical activity,  interaction with people, etc. There is surely an organization whose needs fit your interests. Volunteer UA Expo is the collaboration between the Upper Arlington Commission on Aging, the city of Upper Arlington, Upper Arlington Public Library, the TriVillage Mentoring League, Leadership UA and Syntero Inc./Northwest Counseling Services.  Of course each founding organization will have exhibition tables at the event. Volunteer UA Expo was developed following an Upper Arlington state of the city address when several participants in the city’s annual community fair sought strategies for increasing awareness about local volunteer opportunities.   This program has resulted in some great volunteer-organization matches that otherwise might not have happened. In addition to information about volunteer opportunities, this year’s Volunteer UA Expo will include a presentation called “The Accidental Volunteer” by Shirley Brooks-Jones, a Dublin resident who was traveling by airplane at the time of the terrorist attacks...
