The Ohio Craft Museum

The Ohio Craft Museum   Did you know that Grandview is home to a unique art museum?  In fact, The Ohio Craft Museum is the only museum in the Midwest devoted to collecting and exhibiting fine craft exclusively.  The Ohio Craft Museum presents 5 major exhibitions each year, as well as focus exhibits and rotating exhibits featuring studio glass, ceramics, fiber art, fine metal jewelry and art furniture. Don’t let the name fool you, The Ohio Craft Museum is not a history museum of crafts. It is an exhibition of contemporary craftsmen. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1993 and became the main display case for Ohio Designer Craftsmen, an organization founded in 1963 that promotes public awareness of professional artisans. Can you believe this is a quilt?! The museum also houses the Craft Research Library and stages educational workshops and events for all ages and levels of experience. There is also a great gift shop. Spring break craft camps and summer day camps are available for kids ages 7 to twelve.   The Ohio Craft Museum 1665 W. Fifth Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43212 614.486.4402 ohiocraft.org Admission and parking are...

2013 UA Volunteer Expo

2013 Upper Arlington Volunteer Expo Image Via WordPress Upper Arlington Public Library 2800 Tremont Road April 17, 2013 10am-8pm Now in it’s sixth year, Volunteer UA Expo links local civic and nonprofit organizations with those who wish to volunteer their time.  This worthwhile event is free and open to all ages.  Last year’s event featured exhibit tables for thirty organizations.  So whether you want to help out at a one-time event or be involved on an ongoing basis or if you enjoy some physical activity,  interaction with people, etc. There is surely an organization whose needs fit your interests. Volunteer UA Expo is the collaboration between the Upper Arlington Commission on Aging, the city of Upper Arlington, Upper Arlington Public Library, the TriVillage Mentoring League, Leadership UA and Syntero Inc./Northwest Counseling Services.  Of course each founding organization will have exhibition tables at the event. Volunteer UA Expo was developed following an Upper Arlington state of the city address when several participants in the city’s annual community fair sought strategies for increasing awareness about local volunteer opportunities.   This program has resulted in some great volunteer-organization matches that otherwise might not have happened. In addition to information about volunteer opportunities, this year’s Volunteer UA Expo will include a presentation called “The Accidental Volunteer” by Shirley Brooks-Jones, a Dublin resident who was traveling by airplane at the time of the terrorist attacks...

Capital Area Humane Society Celebrity Chefs

Capital Area Humane Society Thursday, April 18, 2013 Huntington Park The 11th annual Capital Area Humane Society Celebrity Chef event combines two of my passions, Helping Pets and Yummy Fare!  Proceeds from tickets fund care for homeless and abused animals. Graze through an event featuring delicacies from Columbus restaurants and meet local celebrities. Seeing a few of the humane society’s furry friends around Huntington Park adds even more fun to this great evening! Image via Columbus Alive I like several things about this event… It is business casual; it’s a grazing event. You can go from food station to food station, trying sample sizes of offerings, and having the dignitaries and media personalities there as well makes it a lot of fun.   Celebrity Chef attendees number up to 700. It’s not formal or sit down so you can come late; you can leave early. You can meet up with your friends.  Last year there was a live band, raffles and pets available for adoption.  It’s great because the animals are usually either all adopted during the event or the next day . Image of The Cake Chic’s Cosette Strong via Columbus Alive For those of us who love animals but are not looking to take one into our homes Celebrity Chef provides us an opportunity to help these animals as part of your ticket price is directly helping the...
